Sean O'Malley, Senior Manager, Studio Modelling & Facility Jaguar & Land Rover Design

"For 20 years I have had the pleasure of working with Futura Design and particularly in association with David Abel, firstly alongside them on automotive show car projects when I worked at TWR Design and from 2000 onwards as the studio modelling manager at Jaguar Land Rover, on show car projects like the Jaguar R Coupe in 2001 but over the last 10 years it has been more on an agency design recruitment level, something Futura Design can pride themselves on as being one of the most experienced and customer focused automotive design resource suppliers in the world.

From my experience Futura Design have always been synonymous with maintaining their core family values, mentoring, nurturing and motivating their workforce whilst paying attention to detail, flexibility and customer requirements both on the resource side and model building side with the latter usually being to very tight time lines.

Several years ago we were asked to consider Futura Design as a Tier One supplier for design personnel, we fully supported this proposal as JLR Design had experienced working with Futura and had every faith in their ability to understand and supply the calibre and quality of people required in automotive design.

JLR have always been able to rely on Futura Design to assist in building and creating excellent design teams of all skills including engineers, designers and modellers to deliver high quality JLR programme projects, whilst acting with the utmost integrity and professionalism. Therefore JLR Design would never hesitate in using Futura Design as a primary supplier for contract & permanent staff to Jaguar Land Rover and for the purpose of outsourced projects and I am confident that they will continue to deliver a high quality and first class resource recruitment service from start to finish."

Frank Stephenson, Director of Design at McLaren Automotive

"I wanted to thank you for the fantastic work your guys did on the model for us and for the extremely nice treatment and hospitality you and Futura showed us! Service and quality of work, top notch, bar none!"

Andreas Kremheller, Aerodynamics Engineer, Nissan Technical Center Europe

"We really appreciate your quick action and the fast turnaround of our request; we were very impressed with your excellent service"

Welly takes on Kilimanjaro for Georgie's Gift

On 20th October, Futura Design’s Mark Welland is climbing Africa’s highest mountain – Kilimanjaro, in order to raise as much money as we possible for Meningitis & Septicaemia charity Georgie's Gift, in memory of 23 month old Georgie Hall, who was the daughter of one of Mark’s closest friends.

Mark, alongside 18 others have spent the past 6 months intensely training for the climb and hope to complete the challenge within 9 days. Mount Kilimanjaro, situated in the Northern part of Tanzania, which is 5,985M high and covers an area of 100 kilometers long and 65 kilometers wide.

Futura would like to wish Mark the best of luck with his expedition, and ask for you to donate what you can to show your support for Mark and Georgie’s Gift.

Please pledge your support here: http://www.totalgiving.co.uk/mypage/wellys_trek_for_georgie - All donations are welcomed!

ABOUT GEORGIES GIFT:

Georgie’s Gift Ltd was set up in memory of Georgie Hall. She was only 23 months when she fell ill in February 2015. Days later she passed away after being diagnosed with Meningitis and Septicaemia.

As parents Matt & Paula realised how little they knew about this horrible disease, and by setting up “Georgie’s Gift” aim to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of Meningitis and Septicaemia, as well as advising families to get the correct vaccinations.

Fundraising efforts have been incredible so far, and the lengths to which friends, family, and the local community have gone to develop and promote the charity has been overwhelming. There have been some brilliant events already, and with numerous in the pipeline for this year and beyond, we plan to continue to raise as much money as possible to help those in need get some much needed support from Georgie’s Gifts. www.georgiesgift.org

Futura Sponsors The Birmingham Bulldogs

Always conscious of our corporate social responsibility, Futura Group are always eager to support the local community in the West Midlands.

Rugby is a sport close to the hearts of all the Abel family, in particular CEO Mark Abel. Therefore, the Futura Group are proud to announce we are the main sponsor of Rugby League team, the Birmingham Bulldogs.

Bulldogs, who were founded in 1987, were in danger of closing in 2015. Futura’s sponsorship has enabled the club to get back on track and compete in this years’ Midlands Premier Rugby League.

With a fresh new kit for the season and training ground located at Billesley Common - which has recently seen significant investment, providing all weather pitches, as well as additional grass playing & training pitches - the future looks bright for the Birmingham Bulldogs.

With their new sponsor on board, the Birmingham Bulldogs are planning to cement a bright future in Rugby League. A key part to their strategy plan is to create a ‘Juniors’ section to the club in order to support and coach the youth of Birmingham in Rugby League.

New Face: Reece

Following on from a week-long work experience with the company in July this year, Futura Design have offered Dudley College Student Reece an apprenticeship with the company.

After being impressed by Reece’s hard-work and determination, Futura noticed Reece’s talent and offered him an apprenticeship, working with the CAD team at the Head Office based in Oldbury, West Midlands.

Reece will join current CAD-based apprentice Sam, who joined the company over a year ago and recently completed his Mechanical Engineering Higher National Certificate & Level 4 NVQ in Mechanical Engineering. Sam achieved a Pass, Merit and two Distinctions in his first year of studying - Well done Sam!

Recognizing and developing new talent is a core Futura value, and one we are constantly striving to achieve.

Please join us in welcoming Reece to the team and wishing him success with his apprenticeship!

Reece.Dass@Futuradesignltd.co.uk

Well done Ian!

Futura would like to congratulate Senior Project Manager, Ian Bennett who has gone above and beyond in order to raise money for charity in his personal time.

Ian, alongside his Masonic Lodge has raised an amazing £1,800 for Local and National charities including: Sandwell Young Carers, Sandwell Womens Aid, MIND & Lily Foundation.

In the past year, Ian has presented the following cheques:

Sandwell Young Carers - £150

Sandwell Womens Aid - £150

MIND (Mental Health Charity) - £750

Lily Foundation (Mitochondrial Disease Research) - £750

Earlier this year, Futura Group set up the Futura Foundation in order to ‘give back’ and raise as much money as possible for charities close to our hearts. It is great to see these values reflected in our colleagues, therefore Futura would like to publicly congratulate Ian and wish him all the best with future fundraising events.

A week with Futura

From 27th June 2016, Futura Design welcomed two Secondary School students to complete one weeks’ work experience at our Oldbury studio.

Shadowing the Administration department, the students assisted with a range of duties and activities in order to gain an insight into the working world.

From Sandwell Academy, Jagjeevan assisted Finance assistant Rebecca with financial and general administration tasks and worked independently with efficiency.

My experience at Futura has been amazing, it has changed my expectations of Admin and I have definitely enjoyed my time here. The team building with staff was great because I have increased my communication skills and I am confident when I am speaking to other people. I would recommend this to other students who want to do work experience. Jagjeevan Kang.

From Rawlett Academy, Abbie shadowed Lara whilst she worked on Reception, answering phone calls and gained responsibility of administration tasks.

Futura want to thank both students for their hard work & assistance this week and wish both Abbie & Jagjeevan all the best with their studies and careers in the Future!

Futura Design x Royal College of London

At Futura Design, we strongly believe in supporting the new generation of design talent within the automotive industry.

Fresh talented ideas are crucial to an industry which is constantly striving to excite and innovate. In order to support this fresh talent, Futura sponsored four undergraduate students with their final project models. Roman Boretskyy, Charles Purvis, Thomas Ellis and Patrick Carton were the four students who were chosen to have their models created in the Futura Design studio by our dedicated team.

‘It is exciting to see such a strong selection of emerging talent from the Royal College of London. Exploring their visions of future transport, and creating such thought-provoking and environmentally-considerate concepts’ Mark Abel, Futura Group

The Royal College of London held its annual degree show last week in order to showcase the Vehicle Design students final work, interpreting their ideas for a ‘future’ vehicle in model form. Amongst the 22 proposals, we saw a concept for an autonomous car, a supercar with integrated ‘last mile’ module as well as a car body design created with recycled carbon.

See below images of the supported students models:

Patrick Carton

Roman Boretskyy

"I was very excited to have my model sponsord by Futura Design, I had seen some previous sponsored projects by the studio and the quality of the models were very professional. My experience went very well. After completing my CAD data, I sent it off to be CNC milled by Futura. In the mean time, I had also 3D printed parts myself that I took down when the milled models had arrived for test fitting and a general check of the model, wihch went very well since I had been given some great advice previously on how best to make the model. Finally, it was time for painting, I had chosen my colours and after discussion with the paint team I was nearly finished. When the completed model had arrived I was very impressed, the finish and detail was very professional, the constant contact made the process very easy. I am very happy with the final result and would highly reccommend them to future students."

Charles Purvis

Thomas Ellis

"I want to thank you and Futura for the support you gave me and my colleagues with our models for our major projects, the show was a success with a large amount of people commenting on the quality of the models! I do not believe the show would have gone down as well had it not been for the Futura support."

Futura wins 'Manufacturer of the Year' Award

The winners on stage at the end of the 2016 West Midlands Business Masters

On Thursday 16th June, The Business Desk celebrated the very best of West Midlands businesses at their awards ceremony in Edgbaston, hosted by business presenter Steph McGowen.

Futura Foundation Event 2016

On 27th May 2016 Futura celebrated two successes – Our 30th year of business, as well as the fourth consecutive year holding our Futura Foundation Charity Event, pulling out all the stops, in order to host a truly memorable event.

Hosted at the prestigious Forest of Arden Country Club - which has previously hosted a succession of international tournaments, our Golfers took to the course at 8am accompanied by glorious sunshine and a host of wildlife. Playing 18 holes in teams of four, the golfers enjoyed a day out on the course and had some winning moments captured by the student photographers of South Worcestershire College.

Stealing the title from last years’ winner, Martin Earl – Richard Stanton won this years' Golf tournament, closely followed by Paul Llewellyn who came in at second place.

Post-Golf, Futura’s guests attended a gala evening in the hotel's Arden Suite. Greeted by the Nero String Quartet on arrival, guests then sat down to a three-course dinner, which was followed by a live auction, speeches and a brilliant table magician. The photo booth captured memories of the evening, which was topped off with a fantastic live performance from The Zippers, which got everyone on their feet.

Raising an amazing £7,000 for Birmingham Children’s Hospital; the fundraising was a great success. The much-needed funds will allow the hospital to continue researching into the diagnosis and treatment of rare childhood illnesses.

Of course, none of this would have been possible without our amazing sponsors: Granlyn, MHA MacIntyre Hudson, Stratstone, Rampf, Visual Security Ltd, Abacus & Gowling WLG.

Thanks also goes out to local businesses which have supported the event: Forest of Arden Marriot Hotel, Nettl, Sounds Commercial, Best Impressions and The Phoenix Pattern & Tool Co Ltd.

Thank you also for all contributions on the night and post-event, no matter how big or small – Everything has been very much appreciated.

Futura Group announces continued ISO Certification.

Futura Group is proud to announce another milestone in the history of the company. Continuing in their commitment to excellence, Futura Group has been re-certified ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 27001:2013 certification for the third year running.

Futura Group is already well known by clients and industry professionals for providing a high level of service, from design to recruitment. The continued accreditation ensures a robust quality management system to guide and govern their operations from top to bottom. This certification is an important step in assuring that customers continue to receive the very best in quality and service from all employees of the Futura Group.

The ISO 9001:2008 quality management standard was developed and published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and establishes an effective quality management program for organizations who want to prove their ability to consistently provide products and services that meet the needs of their customers and other relevant stakeholders.

The ISO 27001:2013 is a specification for an information security management system (ISMS). An ISMS is a framework of policies and procedures that includes all legal, physical and technical controls involved in an organization’s information risk management processes – ensuring security and integrity of data.

Important components of these ISO certifications include: Customer satisfaction and establishing processes for continuous improvement – Values right at the forefront of Futura Design & Futura Recruitment’s mission.

Futura Design all set to save lives in Oldbury.

Futura Design are happy to announce a LIFEPACK Defibrillator is now present and available to use if required, at the Wharfside, Oldbury site. Located within the main reception, this life-saving piece of equipment could be crucial in case of a local emergency.

Every second counts; after a cardiac arrest, every minute without CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and defibrillation reduces someone's chance of survival by 10%.

Michael McCann, from Heartsafe, said defibrillators could help to save scores of lives. “Sudden cardiac arrest is the UK’s biggest killer and, currently is almost always fatal. It’s no exaggeration to state that an automated external defibrillator is one of the most important pieces of medical equipment in the world. So it’s plain to see, that placing them where a cardiac arrest can occur, will have a significant impact on survival rates.”

The defibrillator provides clear, vocal instructions as well as an easy to follow step-by-step guide, so even those who aren’t trained can still use the defibrillator with confidence. Once in position, the defibrillator detects the heart's rhythm and it won't deliver a shock unless one is needed.

All companies in the vicinity have been made aware of the equipment, with Alex Carman and Alison Parton from DAPA Interior Design attending a training course alongside Futura employees. The training course was led by Geraint Tillott from Lifeline First Aid Training Ltd in an interactive session.

It's a career in Modelling, with a difference!

Have you ever dreamt of a career in modelling? Well Catherine Grant did, but this is modelling with a difference, forget the cat walk and think cars, because Catherine Grant is one of a small number of women in the world who work on creating models of the next generation of cars we will be driving…in clay.

Catherine explained more ‘I’ve always been creative, even as a four year old I was playing in the sand box at nursery shaping and sculpting the sand! I’ve also always been really interested in cars, so I followed my passions and studied Automotive Design in Coventry. In was in the second year of my degree that I had the chance to try clay modelling and I fell in love straight away. In my third year I went to Aston Martin for a 10 week placement where I worked on clay models’.

Daniel Abel, Recruitment Manager at Futura Group explained more ‘Clay modellers are highly skilled and an essential part of the car design process, the Futura Group already supplies many of the world’s leading automotive companies with clay modellers and demand continues to grow as the pace of new model introductions quicken.’

‘Catherine joined us back in the summer of 2014, straight after finishing her degree, as part of the Futura Design Academy scheme. The Academy was created to develop the finest young talent in the automotive design world, we recognised Catherine as an exceptional graduate and so it was with real pride that we invited her to become part of our program.’

Catherine is excited about her future and about the clients that Futura work with ‘The Futura Group is amongst the best in the world at what they do and I am so lucky to work with some of the most gifted car designers. Clay modelling is a pretty unusual job but it’s incredibly satisfying and rewarding to take a 3D digital design and then develop it into a 3D physical model. Only a few people in the world do-what I do, most people have no idea what it is, but dad’s really impressed.’

Futura Design makes the world its oyster

Automotive clients wishing to employ non-EU contractors in the UK can now turn to Futura Design for help; with the Midlands based automotive design company having just been awarded an A rating official Tier 2 Sponsorship status by UK Visas & Immigration.

Recruitment Manager at Futura, Daniel Abel, explained ‘Many of our clients would like to hire talented individuals from outside the EU, but employment law can make this very difficult. We decided to become a Tier 2 Sponsor which makes it possible for us to arrange placement visas for skilled migrants from outside the EU. In simple terms this gives our clients access to the very best people from anywhere in the world’.

‘The UK automotive design market is a very vibrant one and Futura anticipate a steady flow of enquiries both from employees and employers.’ said Dan. ‘Visa applications typically take between 8 and 12 weeks to arrange with placements lasting from 1 year onwards’.

Ayline Koning Joins Futura Design and Clark Abel as Head of Design

World leading automotive design company Futura Design and its luxury brand Clark Abel have an award winning new designer, Ayline Koning.

Clark Abel Chairman, Geoff Cousins said: "We're delighted that Ayline has joined the Futura Group, she brings a fresh and exciting artistic approach and is a critical element within the development of our Bespoke Brand, Clark Abel. Her experience in both high end automotive and luxury lifestyle designs further strengthens our ability to deliver stunning, bespoke creations to our discerning customers."

Hailing from the Provence Region of France, Ayline studied architecture at the Louvres, before obtaining a degree in product design at the National ENSAAMA College in Paris. Her first commercial engagement started soon after when she joined a trend setting agency followed by a position with Citroën.

Ayline's passion for automotive design soon led her to the UK where she studied car design, achieving a degree from Coventry University before completing a Masters at the Royal College of Art. Whilst at the RCA, Ayline also won a Renault sponsored design competition where she explored the role of vehicle personalisation with her concept: "the essential is in the accessory".

Her final asymmetric project "Aura" was recognised with the Pilkington Award for best overall design and she was also the first woman to win the prestigious Giugiaro award for innovation.

Ayline was sponsored by Land Rover, working on one of their most sensational show cars the Range Stormer, for which she created the vehicles unique seats together with innovative storage solutions, integrated luggage accessories, a glass roof system, glass spoiler and centre console elements. Ayline's fascination with lighting designs also resulted in the vehicles unique crushed ice effect which was applied to the Range Stormer's interior and exterior lights.

Her unique designs did not go unnoticed and Ayline then began working for French product and interior designer Philippe Starck.

Ayline has travelled extensively, lived in Sweden and also worked in Germany. A gifted linguist she utilised her language skills for Johnson Controls when delivering projects for BMW, Daimler Chrysler, Kia, Toyota and Mercedes Benz within the production and innovation teams. Back in the UK she also worked exclusive Dutch brand Spyker at UltraMotive.

Ayline's versatility and creativity has resulted in a stunning portfolio of lifestyle creations. A talented and innovative designer, Futura is delighted to welcome Ayline Koning to the group.

World leading automotive design company Futura Design is delighted to announce that its second annual Charity Golf Day will be held at the prestigious Forest of Arden Golf Club in the Midlands.

Sporting two Championship quality courses, the Forest of Arden has seen some of the sports all-time greats grace its greens and fairways but on Friday June 27th whilst the spirit of competition may still burn brightly, it is unlikely that any of the players will be challenging the course record!

Futura Chairman David Abel said 'The annual Golf Day is a great opportunity to spend some time with friends and clients, and most importantly raise a substantial amount of money for Charity. The Birmingham Childrens' Hospital is particularly close to my heart and anything we can do to help raise funds for them is alright with me'.

Last year's event raised £10,000 for Birmingham Children's Hospital and this year Futura hopes to top this figure. With more than 70 golfers attending and some fantastic prizes donated to this year's evening charity auction the signs are it's going to be a great day.

Jason Dawe joined the company from April 3rd and will be managing Futura's internal and external communications across a diverse range of media.

Well known as a broadcaster and journalist Jason started his career in the automotive industry in 1986 and brings with him a wealth of commercial experience.

Working in retail operations for privately, publicly and manufacturer owned operations for the first 12 years of his career, Jason understands both how automotive dealers work and the challenges faced by the manufacturers and distributors.

In 1998 Jason joined automotive consultants Mitac as Director of Training and Development. Over the next five years he worked with a broad range of clients in both Europe and overseas, writing and delivering new car launches whilst also providing strategic consultancy to develop network profitability and volume. Clients included Jaguar, Porsche, Mercedes Benz, Citroen, Nissan, Harley Davidson and Land Rover.

In late 2002 Jason moved into the world of media, joining BBC2 Top Gear as a presenter and The Sunday Times as a columnist. In 2006 he developed, wrote and co-produced a new motoring show for ITV, called The Used Car Roadshow. It went on to run for three series with more than 70 episodes. Jason is now much in demand as a writer, director and producer.

An unapologetic petrol head, Jason loves anything with a steering wheel and will talk cars until well into the small hours of the morning (given half a chance)!

Paul Cadman (Managing Director) has said:

"It has been an absolute pleasure to meet and get to know Jason: Finally I have got the right man for the job. A man of his caliber and experience, along with his electric personality is exactly what we were looking for. He has a keen sense of understanding our business and follows our core values."

Jason comments "I began working with Futura in 2013, on a supplier basis and was impressed by their expertise, professionalism and attitude towards business. What also struck me immediately were the great relationships they build with their clients, many of whom have been with them for more than a decade. When Paul asked if I would be interested in joining the Futura Group it really wasn't a tough decision. I'm really looking forward to being part of the team and working on projects with some of the most significant clients in the automotive industry".

This is an exciting time with so much in the pipeline for our company, and now, with Jason's knowledge, we can showcase ourselves in the best way.

Futura Group Supports Dan Fuller at The MCE British Superbike Championship

Futura Group is delighted with the progress Dan Fuller is making on his rode to stardom. After agreeing to sponsor Dan, 26, throughout this season, he is now ready to push forward in his future events, taking part in The MCE British Superbike Championship 2014, said to be the most thrilling motorsport series in the UK.

The next Rider event takes place this Bank Holiday weekend [3-5 May] at Oulton Park circuit in Cheshire. Brit, Daniel Fuller, will certainly be one of those. Currently looking to Qualify in Group B in the Pirelli National Superstock 1000 Championships, Dan is now ready to take on Oulton Park and give them a really good show.

The championship has undergone some real changes throughout the winter months which have seen teams and rider change like never before. This leaves everyone racing feel like they are worthy of a podium spot.

After being unlucky with, what can only be described as treacherous conditions, Dan unfortunately didn't qualify for one of the 38 places on the grid for the feature race at Brands Hatch Indy (18-21 April). Because of the wet circuit, he was unlikely to improve on his earlier time (set in the dry first qualifying session).

Despite hitting 26 in September of last year, Daniel has had an interest in racing motorcycles from a very young age and completed his first full season of racing in 2008 with the British Motorcycle Racing Club (Bemsee) on some on his most favourite bikes, the Suzuki SV650S. With a combination of both enthusiasm and skill, Fuller has managed to maintain the lap record holder of the Brands Hatch GP circuit in his class.

Futura Group are sponsoring him this season and continue to root for him in his development. We are proud of what Dan has achieved so far, and look forward to seeing him after a blistering and successful Championship Season.
